The movement for paid sick days is supported by a diverse group of workers and their families, community members, activists, labor unions, and advocacy groups in California. California’s campaign is coordinated by the California Work and Family Coalition, sponsored by the California Labor Federation, and championed by Assemblywoman Fiona Ma.

The California Work and Family Coalition is a diverse coalition of advocates, community groups and labor unions that promotes family friendly workplace policies for California’s working families through policy work and grassroots activism. The Coalition was founded in 1999 by the Labor Project for Working Families to protect and expand the rights of working families in California. The Coalition supports policies that help California workers keep their jobs and fulfill their caregiving responsibilities.

The California Labor Federation is made up of more than 1,200 AFL-CIO and Change to Win unions, representing 2.1 million union members in manufacturing, retail, construction, hospitality, public sector, health care, entertainment and other industries. The California Labor Federation is dedicated to promoting and defending the interests of working people and their families for the betterment of California’s communities. From legislative campaigns to grassroots organizing, our affiliates are actively engaged in every aspect of California’s economy and government.

Assemblywoman Fiona Ma was elected to represent the people of California’s 12th Assembly District. The district includes San Francisco, Daly City, Colma and Broadmoor. The Speaker appointed Assemblywoman Ma as Assembly Majority Whip, where she is responsible for ensuring the passage of crucial legislation to improve public education, expand healthcare access and protect our environment. Recently, Assemblywoman Ma was appointed to key committees including Higher Education, Revenue and Taxation, Housing, Agriculture and Public Safety. She was also named Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Domestic Violence. Assemblywoman Ma has authored groundbreaking legislation to protect young children from dangerous chemicals, help California’s working families pay the bills, increase access to quality healthcare, and provide equal rights for all Californians.
